Development & Communications Fellowship

Job Summary:

The Development and Communications Fellow can be done remotely and will entail working closely with the Founder to develop a fundraising strategy and communication natives that will support the organization’s development activities. They will build a grant pipeline and donor database and play a lead role in designing our direct mail and online fundraising campaigns.

This position will build the candidate’s experience in media management, grant writing, and content creation, all within the context of nonprofit and social impact management. It will also provide opportunities for managing a team and allow you to be at the forefront of building strategic initiatives.

The ideal person for the job is a problem solver with excellent communication skills and impeccable attention to detail. You thrive in a start-up and ambiguous environment. You are excited about being part of the development of the next generation of African Leaders. The role has many growth opportunities and local and global exposure as you will work closely with the Senior Management.

Responsibilities
i) Assisting in the drafting, editing, and distribution of outbound communications, including email updates, press releases, and publications
ii) Develop LLA’s grant writing and reporting processes, including identifying new grant opportunities and supporting as needed with research and writing
iii) Develop our donor database, and ensure timely communication with supporters at all levels of the organization
iv) Design the process of building and planning for fundraising events
v) Design and lead direct mail and online fundraising campaigns

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
i) Excellent written and verbal communication skills
ii) Creativity and resourcefulness
iii) Ability to teach themselves quickly
iv) Ability to work independently and collaboratively
v) Organizational skills and attention to detail
vi) Patience, flexibility, resiliency, and community spirit

Preferred Skills and Experience:
i) Pursuing a Master’s degree in a relevant field of study
ii) Background in fundraising, grant management, and donor database management
iii) Able to commit to work at least 30 hours per week
